Thanksgiving Weekend

Everyone knows that Thanksgiving marks the weekend of the annual tree hunt. Come snow or shine, we pack up the kids and set out for our trophy to admire in our homes! Seen here is our finished product. Our best Christmas tree yet! Now for the thrilling saga of how it got here...

Once upon a time there were two over-zealous tree hunters (we'll call them Muffin and Dave), who spotted a tree in 2 feet of fresh powder, a half-mile from the nearest road. "Why not drag it to the road?" said Muffin, "It doesn't matter that we are knee deep in snow, and carrying 25 pounds on each of our backs."

Dave -- wise, yet without guile, and knowing through experience that it would be best not to fight this battle, readily agrees to the challenge.

The most treacherous part of the hunt is stealthily approaching the tree, while on the lookout for Ents (tree herders) who may become violent at this time of year.

The "lookout" patrol. These crack veterans of many tree hunts can spot trouble a mile away. With their quiet demeanor in the forest, there is never any danger of seeing wildlife.

Our hunting party. No parallels should be drawn with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. We successfully "bagged" five trees this day -- with no casualties. A good hunt!

What better than sitting with Papa after a long day's hunt! Warming the chill from one's bones in front of a roaring fire...

Our next generation of hunters! Raising the young'uns right!

It looks like the tree hunt was a lot of fun this year!!! This is one of Annie's favorite things to do. She told me about this three ears ago when I first met her and I thought that is one of the coolest things ever! I am glad it is a strong tradition in your family. Your tree looks good!! Congrats on 8 years of marriage!! You guys still seem very much like newly weds!!

You are going to have to tell me where you went! We go every year, and last year was the first year we went while living in ABQ and we went to a TERRIBLE place and our tree wasn't nearly as cute as yours! We're going this weekend, so I need advice! Your tree is BEAUTIFUL!! So fun!

Awesome tree!! We went up last year and cut one down but it was not even close to the size of yours! You did great! We are going this Friday to get ours, hopefully we get luckier this year!
